Description

The iPhone is a mobile phone that people control with their fingers on a large glass screen. Apple announced it on January 9, 2007, and sold it from June 29 for $499 or $599.

Importance

The iPhone replaced the small plastic keyboards of many smartphones with a keyboard on its touch screen. When Apple opened the App Store on July 10, 2008, other companies could sell software for the phone. The store started with more than 500 applications and had more than 140,000 by January 2010.

Interesting fact

In the first weekend of the App Store, iPhone and iPod touch users downloaded more than 10 million applications.
