Overview

A coding agent can read every component and still miss what the app actually looks like. Shotation connects that gap to another recurring job: making screenshots for a store listing. It discovers screens and scenarios, captures the running app, and brings the results into a local studio for review and composition.

The Challenge

A screenshot is only useful if it shows the right app in the right state. Splash screens, permission prompts, loading placeholders, and missing images can all look like a completed capture to an automated workflow. Store artwork adds another constraint: every export needs the right dimensions without quietly stretching a small source image.

My Approach

The CLI discovers routes and screens across web, SwiftUI, React Native, Expo, and Android projects. Capture adapters collect screenshots and supporting evidence from browsers, simulators, and emulators. Each run keeps its source files and a manifest, while the React studio handles layout, device frames, captions, templates, and listing review.

The Solution

Shotation distinguishes real captures from simulated, blocked, and missing states. The studio turns usable sources into editable screenshot sequences, with separate targets for Apple, Google Play, and marketing assets. Export checks flag problems with source quality, dimensions, and layout before the artwork leaves the project.

Outcomes

An actively developed local toolkit with web capture, native adapters, a composition studio, and store export workflows. Broader native-device proof and visual regression coverage remain in progress.
