Description

This sign stood on the lawn of 320 Pioneer Way in Mountain View, where Y Combinator shared a building with the company Anybots. YC co-founder Trevor Blackwell let YC use part of the building before its first winter batch in 2006.

Importance

Y Combinator started in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in March 2005 with $200,000 from Paul Graham, Robert Morris, and Trevor Blackwell. It funded startups in groups at the same time, twice a year, with small standard investments. Its early startups included Reddit, Justin.tv, Dropbox, and Airbnb, and in 2013 it published the SAFE contract.

Interesting fact

At the first YC dinner in California, the founders had to avoid the walls because the paint was still wet.
