Description
The T-Mobile G1, made by HTC, is the first phone with Google's Android software and has a keyboard under a screen that slides. T-Mobile sold it in the United States from October 22, 2008, for $179 with a two-year contract.
Importance
Google bought the Palo Alto startup Android in 2005 and gave the software to phone makers as open source. This decision put one Valley operating system on phones from many manufacturers, the opposite of the closed model of the iPhone. Android became the most used mobile platform in the world.
Interesting fact
When Google announced Android in November 2007, it had an alliance of 34 companies but no phone to show.
