Description

The Nest Learning Thermostat is a round wall thermostat with a steel ring that turns and a color display. It learns the habits of a household and makes its own heating and cooling schedule.

Importance

Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, who had both worked on the iPod at Apple, announced the Nest on October 25, 2011, at $249. Fadell had earlier worked at General Magic with Andy Rubin, who later started Android. In January 2014, Google agreed to buy Nest for $3.2 billion in cash.

Interesting fact

At the launch, Fadell said that thermostats control approximately 10 percent of all the energy that the United States uses.
