Description
The HP Garage is a small one-car garage behind a house at 367 Addison Avenue in Palo Alto. In 1938 Bill Hewlett and David Packard started to work there with $538 in cash and equipment.
Importance
On January 1, 1939, Hewlett and Packard made their partnership official, and the garage became the first workshop of Hewlett-Packard. California made it Historical Landmark No. 976, the Birthplace of Silicon Valley, in 1987. Hewlett-Packard later moved to the Stanford Industrial Park, and in 2000 it bought the Addison Avenue property.
Interesting fact
The Packards rented the ground-floor flat of the house, and Hewlett lived in an 8-by-18-foot shed behind it.
