Description
Coinbase is a cryptocurrency exchange that Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam started in 2012 to let people send and receive bitcoin easily. Its stock started to trade on Nasdaq on April 14, 2021, through a direct listing without an underwritten IPO.
Importance
Coinbase told investors in 2021 that its financial results depended on the growth of crypto assets. Marc Andreessen, a cofounder of Netscape, was a member of its board. In May 2020, Coinbase became a remote-first company with no headquarters, a contrast with the Palo Alto garage of Hewlett-Packard.
Interesting fact
On the cover of its 2021 registration statement, Coinbase wrote Not Applicable in the space for the address of its main offices.
