Description
The Tesla Model S is a four-door, five-seat electric sedan with a 17-inch touchscreen for the driver. Tesla started customer deliveries at its Fremont factory on June 22, 2012.
Importance
In May 2010, Tesla agreed to buy the closed NUMMI car plant in Fremont for approximately $42 million. Toyota had run the plant with General Motors for 25 years and closed it in April 2010. The Model S followed the Roadster of 2008 and was the second car that Tesla produced.
Interesting fact
Board member Steve Jurvetson got the first production car because he wrote a deposit check at a 2009 board meeting.
