Description
Silicon Valley U.S.A. was a three-part series by Don Hoefler in the trade weekly Electronic News, which started on January 11, 1971. The image shows the headline of the first part on page 1.
Importance
The series told the history of the chip industry on the Peninsula, from Shockley and Fairchild to the present. Hoefler counted 23 companies that came from Fairchild. After the series, people used the name Silicon Valley for the whole region.
Interesting fact
Historian Ralf Buelow found the phrase in a December 1970 headline in Electronic Design, a few weeks before the series.
