Description
This is a Juicero Press that the hardware investment firm Bolt disassembled and mounted for display. The Wi-Fi press squeezed juice from sealed packs of chopped fruit and vegetables that customers bought by subscription.
Importance
Juicero raised approximately $120 million from investors such as Kleiner Perkins and Google Ventures, and its press cost $699 at launch. In April 2017, Bloomberg showed that people could squeeze the packs by hand, and the company closed that September. Juicero became an example of a startup that raised large sums to solve a problem that did not exist.
Interesting fact
Bolt found eight large machined aluminum parts in the press and estimated that they made up more than half its parts cost.
